With one month to go before the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, U.S. snowboard star Chloe Kim announced on social media she dislocated her shoulder during a training crash.

While in Switzerland ahead of the Laax Open, Kim fell as she was going up the side of the halfpipe and landed awkwardly, resulting in the injury. She said an MRI is scheduled for Friday, at which point she will have a better idea of the recovery timeline.

The two-time reigning Olympic champion posted video of the fall, along with a message to fans about the news.

“Positive things is I have range, I’m not in that much pain,” Kim said in her video. “Obviously I just don’t want [my shoulder] to keep popping out, which has happened.

“So just trying to stay really optimistic, but I feel really good about where my snowboarding is at right now, so I know that the minute I get cleared and I’m good to go, I should be fine. I’m just hoping that that doesn’t take too long.”

Kim already is qualified for the U.S. team based on her results last season. She's one of several women — along with Anna Gasser (AUT) and Ester Ledecka (CZE) — vying to become the first snowboarder to win gold at three consecutive Olympics.

The Opening Ceremony for the Milan Cortina Games is on Friday, Feb. 6. Women’s snowboard halfpipe gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 11 with the first round of competition.

Kim's only competition so far this season was the U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, where she was the top qualifier but pulled out of the final after crashing during practice.
