Overview

Having been an Olympic feature for over a century, equestrian is a unique sport among its Olympic counterparts. It is the only sport in the Games to feature animals as part of the competition, and is also the only sport where men and women compete head to head in all competition categories.

Olympic equestrian is split into three disciplines: dressage, jumping and eventing. In dressage, each horse and rider team will compete a dance routine, showcasing the pair's discipline and dexterity. In jumping, each pair will complete a tight jumping course, with obstacles reaching up to 1.6 meters (roughly 63 inches). Eventing is the only discipline to combine different types of competition, consisting of a dressage, cross-country and jumping portion.

In Olympic dressage, each category will have an individual and a team competition.
