The U.S. representatives for golf at the Tokyo Games will once again be heavily dictated by the Official World Golf Ranking. Team USA will not officially be finalized until June, but the Official World Golf Ranking provides a peak of who may be representing the U.S. in Tokyo.

At the time of this writing, there are eight Americans in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for the men. Those golfers are as follows.

- Dustin Johnson
- Justin Thomas
- Collin Morikawa
- Bryson DeChambeau
- Xander Schauffele
- Patrick Reed
- Webb Simpson
- Patrick Cantlay

Dustin Johnson will not be competing at the Tokyo Games, but Thomas, Morikawa, DeChambeau and Schauffele are all the current favorites to make the trip to Japan and compete for the gold if they so choose.

On the women's side, five U.S. golfers are currently ranked in the top 15 of the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings. Those golfers are as follows.

- Nelly Korda
- Danielle Kang
- Lexi Thompson
- Jennifer Kupcho
- Austin Ernst
