In gymnastics, the top three teams from the 2018 World Championships qualify to the Olympic Games, as do the top nine eligible teams at the 2019 World Championships. The U.S. women qualified in 2018, while the men qualified in 2019.

Most athletes vying to make the team will compete at the men's or women's U.S. Gymnastics Championships and U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June as part of the selection process.  The team members (four men, four women) will be named at the end of Olympic Trials in June. There are additional spots available for the individual competitions (two for the women, one for the men).

Jade Carey, however, already qualified for the women's individual competition in 2019 by earning a nominative berth based on results from the FIG individual Apparatus World Cup Series events.
