The Milan Cortina Games mark the first Olympics with NHL participation since 2014. Players considered for the Olympic roster were based on evaluations of performances until the 2026 nomination date. 

For the men's team, the first six players were named to the U.S. Olympic team on June 16, 2025: Auston Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy. The full 25-man U.S. roster was named in early January.

Women's:

Laila Edwards, 20, is the youngest American ever to win the tournament MVP award at a world championship. In Milan, Edwards will become the first Black woman ever to represent the U.S. in Olympic hockey.

For the U.S. women, Twenty-one-year-old Laila Edwards is one of the 23 players named to the roster and will make history at the Games as the first Black woman to ever compete for the U.S. women's hockey team at the Olympics.

Team USA captain Hilary Knight will help lead the team in Milan and will become the first U.S. hockey player to participate in five Olympic Games. Additionally, if she earns her fifth medal of any color, she’ll tie the record for the most hockey medals in history. Knight has said the 2026 Olympics will be the last of her career.

This will officially be the fourth Olympics for Kendall Coyne Schofield, who previously said that “a gold medal and gold medal only” is the expectation for Team USA.
