American freeski veteran Alex Hall will return to the Olympics stage at Milan Cortina 2026 to defend his gold medal in men's slopestyle. After making his Olympic debut in 2018 with a 16th place finish at the PyeongChang Games, Hall impressed the world when he became the first skier to land a 2160 (six full rotations) in competition at X Games Aspen 2022. The next month, Hall amazed judges at the Beijing Winter Olympics with a strong final run that included a back air pretzel, earning him the title of Olympic champion in slopestyle.

Hall is a storied freeskier. He became the first skier to place first in four different X Games freeski disciplines: big air, slopestyle, knuckle huck and real ski (the latter two are not contested at the Winter Olympics). Hall also finished on the podium at three World Cup slopestyle events during the 2025 season and placed 3rd in slopestyle at X Games Aspen 2026 two weeks ago.

Despite his success, Hall faces strong competition from his teammates, Mac Forehand, Troy Podmilsak and Konnor Ralph. Forehand is returning for his second Winter Olympics, while Podmilsak won back-to-back World Cup big air events to qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Ralph has had a strong season so far, currently ranking 4th and 5th on the slopestyle and big air World Cup standings, respectively.
