What to know about the freeski slopestyle events at the 2026 Winter Olympics
In slopestyle, one of three freeski disciplines at the Winter Olympics, skiers compete on a course featuring a combination of jumps and rail sections. Skiers are judged on each run and ranked according to their best overall run.
The United States has a history of success in men's freeski slopestyle at the Olympics, with a legacy that includes a podium sweep at the inaugural contest in 2014 and Alex Hall's victory four years ago in Beijing. Team USA is bringing another strong contingent of skiers to Livigno, led by defending gold medalist Hall and two-time Crystal Globe winner Mac Forehand. The team, which also features big air specialist Troy Podmilsak and Olympic rookie Konnor Ralph, will be up against a strong international field that includes New Zealand's Luca Harrington, Norway's Birk Ruud and Switzerland's Andri Ragettli.
On the women's side, slopestyle was the one freeski event that China's Eileen Gu did not win at the last Olympics. Although she's competed sparingly in this discipline over the last four years, the 22-year-old remains the favorite for gold in Livigno. Defending champion Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland, Great Britain's Kirsty Muir and a strong Canadian contingent (Naomi Urness, Megan Oldham, Olivia Asselin, Elena Gaskell) should also contend for medals. The U.S. team includes 17-year-old rookie Avery Krumme and X Games knuckle huck champions Marin Hamill and Rell Harwood.
