What to know about freestyle skiing at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The freestyle skiing program for Milan Cortina includes three freeski park and pipe disciplines (halfpipe, slopestyle, big air), three traditional freestyle disciplines (moguls, dual moguls, aerials) and ski cross.

In women's freeskiing, Eileen Gu is once again the name to watch. The 21-year-old, who was born in the U.S. but competes for China, won medals across the board in halfpipe, slopestyle and big air at the last Olympics, and could have another historic showing at the Milan Cortina Games. The men's freeski events are loaded with talent, but the U.S. has been one of the strongest countries in halfpipe (Alex Ferreira, Nick Goepper, Hunter Hess) and slopestyle/big air (Alex Hall, Troy Podmilsak, Mac Forehand).

Dual moguls is a new event on the Olympic program and gives the strong U.S. women's moguls team (Jaelin Kauf, Tess Johnson, Liz Lemley, Olivia Giaccio) two chances at winning medals. The U.S. aerials team β€” which includes Quinn Dehlinger, Chris Lillis, Kaila Kuhn and Winter Vinecki β€” could contend for individual medals as well as a second straight title in the mixed team event.
