What to know about golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Le Golf National just outside Paris, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup, is set to play host to arguably the most anticipated Olympic golf competition since the sport rejoined the Games in 2016.

Unlike at the Rio and Tokyo Games, where many of the top men's golfers opted out of competing at the Olympics, Paris is expected to feature most, if not all, of the biggest names that qualified.

For the U.S., that means a star-studded foursome of major champions, led by World No. 1 and 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, making his Olympic debut. Scheffler will be joined by 2024 PGA Championship winner and reigning gold medalist Xander Schauffele, along with 2023 U.S. Open champ Wyndham Clark and two-time major champion Collin Morikawa.

The Americans will be up against a who's-who of international golf stars including Rory McIlroy (IRL), Jon Rahm (ESP), Jason Day (AUS), Viktor Hovland (NOR), Hideki Matsuyama (JPN) and Ludvig Åberg (SWE).

The women's tournament will also feature a defending American gold medalist in the form of World No. 1 Nelly Korda. Korda, along with countrywomen Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang, will be up against an elite field that includes the 15 highest-ranked players in the world.

World No. 6 Celine Boutier will have plenty of home support as the French star looks to add Olympic gold to her résumé, which already includes a major championship victory.
