What to know about taekwondo at the 2024 Paris Olympics
There will be eight different weight classes (four men's, four women's) for taekwondo contested at the Paris Olympics across four days. Each day will feature the entire tournament for one men's and one women's weight class. The sport has undergone some rule changes since the last Olympics, most notably shifting to a best-of-three format.
Taekwondo is one of the most global sports on the Olympic program, and a large number of nations are expected to be represented in the tournament fields and on the podiums. The field also includes five athletes competing for the Refugee Olympic Team.
Among the four taekwondo athletes that the United States is sending to compete, the big name to know is CJ Nickolas. Nickolas, who will turn 23 before the start of the Olympics, placed second at last year's world championships and will be a medal contender in Paris.
