Led by skip Danny Casper, Team Casper is the men’s curling rink that will represent the United States in Milan Cortina.

To qualify for the Games, the squad ran the gauntlet of top-flight competition, starting when they won the U.S. Team Trials in November by dethroning the king of American curling John Shuster and his rink in a gutsy best of three final series.

Shuster had participated in five straight Winter Olympics, leading his rink on an improbable gold medal run in 2018. The last time he had lost at a Team Trials event was 20 years ago.

After the impressive underdog victory, Team Casper moved on to the Olympic Qualification Event (OQE), where they officially punched their tickets to the Winter Olympics. It will be the first time anyone in the rink — which includes Casper, Ben RichardsonLuc VioletteAiden Oldenburg and Rich Ruohonen — competes at the Games.

The Olympic neophytes will face their toughest challenge yet on the biggest stage, but already have proven time and time again that they can hang with the world’s elite and do it under tremendous pressure. Team Mouat of Great Britain and defending Olympic gold medalists Team Edin of Sweden are among the favorites on the men’s side.
