Competition kicks off at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics in just two weeks and men's hockey is one of the most anticipated sports, as NHL players return to the ice for the first time since the 2014 Sochi Games.
USA Hockey announced Stanley Cup winner Seth Jones, who was named to the Olympic roster at the beginning of January, now will be replaced by Jackson LaCombe. The organization said Jones no longer is able to participate due to an injury.
LaCombe is a 25-year-old defenseman for the Anaheim Ducks and won gold with Team USA at the 2025 IIHF World Championship last summer. The defenseman also won gold as a member of the U.S. junior national team at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.
While LaCombe now will get a chance to represent Team USA on the Olympic stage, this is the second time Jones has been named to an Olympic roster but won't be able to compete. Back in 2021, Jones was named as one of the first three players to the U.S. men's hockey roster to compete at the 2022 Beijing Games. However, prior to the Games, the NHL pulled its players out of the Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and they did not compete.
Jones has been sidelined with an injury since the Winter Classic on Feb. 2.
The men's hockey tournament begins in Milan Cortina on Feb. 11 and the U.S. opens Olympic play on Feb. 12 against Latvia.
