The men's and women's 20km skiathlon events took place under clear skies, as the cross-country skiing World Cup in Trondheim, Norway resumed.

The farewell tour for U.S. Olympian Jessie Diggins also continued, as she put an exclamation point on her final World Cup in Trondheim. Diggins put together a gritty performance to win the skiathlon in a time of 50:29.5. As she so often does, Diggins went full throttle into the "pain cave" on the last climb to capture the lead and her 30th World Cup win.

Norway's Heidi Weng kept right on the heels of Diggins to the end and finished just one second behind the winner. Ebba Andersson of Sweden took the final podium spot and finished 2.3 seconds behind Weng

Diggins remains the overall World Cup leader and the wearer of the yellow bib. After the race, she thanked her team of wax techs for helping her put together such a good race in her Trondheim finale.

It was really, I think, exciting for the whole team and, you know, when it's your last year it's always fun to leave a place with a good memory.

U.S. teammates Julia Kern and Rosie Brennan finished 25th and 29th, respectively.

On the men's side, Norway continued to dominate as they have so far during this World Cup season. Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, Harald Oestberg Amundsen and Emil Iversen battled head-to-head to the finish line and swept the podium for Norway in the men's skiathlon in front of their home crowd.

Klaebo took the lead after the final curve and powered to the finish to win his 101st World Cup race in a time of 43:49.4. Klaebo just barely edged out Amundsen, who took second after crossing the finish line just 0.7 seconds behind his teammate. Iversen clinched third place after crossing the line 0.2 seconds behind Amundsen.

Klaebo remains the overall World Cup leader and holds on to the yellow bib.

Competition continues in Trondheim with the men's and women's 10km interval start free events.
