American phenom Jordan Stolz increased his 2025-26 World Cup medal total to six, racing to gold in the 1500m and bronze in the 500m on the second day of competition at the World Cup in Calgary.

Though he got off to a slow start in the 1500m, the 21-year-old phenom found an extra gear down the stretch, pushing through the finish line for his second top prize in the distance this season. His winning time was 1:42.10 minutes.

Neither Stolz nor teammate Erin Jackson came out on top in the day's opening sprint, a distance which both skaters typically dominate, though both found their way to the podium regardless.

The Netherlands' Femke Kok, who last weekend broke the world record in the women's 500m, remained undefeated in the distance, skating across the finish line in 36.65 seconds — almost half a second ahead of 2nd-place finisher Chen Ying-Chu.

Jackson, the reigning Olympic and World Cup champion, earned bronze in the race, posting a final time of 37.15 seconds for her third podium finish this season. She finished second in both 500m races during the season opener in Salt Lake City.

On the opening day of competition in Calgary, Stolz pulled ahead of Dutch rival Jenning de Boo down the stretch to claim gold in the 1000m. The roles reversed in the 500m, where de Boo finished in 2nd, just seven one-thousandths of a second faster than Stolz.

Stolz skated to 1st and 4th in the two 500m showings at the first World Cup.

Korea's Kim Jun-Ho, who topped the podium with a time of 33.99 seconds, was the only man to break 34 seconds for the day.

The Netherlands' Joy Beune continued her takeover of the longer two individual distances, taking gold in the women's 1500m for the second time and bringing her World Cup golden tally to four.

After a sixth-place finish in the distance last weekend, American Brittany Bowe found her way to her first individual podium of the season, posting 1:51.84 to take bronze behind Japan's Miho Takagi.

Takagi's silver also was her first individual medal of the season. Both veterans skated to the podium in the women's relay during the first World Cup.

American skaters may earn an Olympic berth in two ways at World Cup competitions:

  • Earn a medal at the 2025 ISU World Single Distances Championships AND place in the top five at any two of the first four World Cups in the same distance
  • Finish in the top three at any two of the first four World Cups in the same distance

With his two medals for the day, Stolz technically has pre-qualified for the 500m and 1500m at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Jackson's second top-three finish in the 500m pre-qualifies her as well.

However, they and any other pre-qualified skaters also must compete in the same distance at Olympic Trials January 2-6, 2026, in order to remain eligible for the Olympic roster. Additionally, the number of quota spots each country will receive will not be released until Dec. 19.
