Jordan Stolz increased his season's golden tally to 11 on the first day of competition at the Hamar World Cup, breaking two track records in the process.
Stolz won his first race in Hamar, skating the men's 500m in 33.97 seconds and snapping a track record held by Dutch rival Jenning de Boo for the third-straight sprint. The 21-year-old is coming off a sweep of his three primary events at World Cup No. 3 in Heerenveen, Netherlands, where he snapped a track record in each, including two de Boo previously owned.
Stolz has skated to the podium in four of his five 500m races so far this season, winning three of them.
De Boo, who was paired with Stolz for the race in Hamar, also broke his former mark of 34.24, crossing the finish line in 34.21. He will not compete in the weekend's second 500m on Dec. 14.
Stolz and de Boo are the world No. 1 and No. 2 in the distance, respectively.
Stolz's second track best of the weekend came in the men's 1500m, in which he broke a 16-year-old mark set by fellow American Shani Davis. Stolz shaved just 0.11 seconds off Davis' record from 2009 for his second gold of the weekend.
He is undefeated in the distance this season, skating to gold in each of the four races held so far.
The Netherlands' Kjeld Nuis finished 2nd behind Stolz in the distance for the second weekend in a row. Stolz's first broken track record in Heerenveen was Nuis' mark in the 1500m.
World record-holder Femke Kok extended her unbeaten streak in the women's 500m, setting a new track record of 37.05 seconds. The previous mark, which had stood since 2019, was 37.25.
The Dutch skater has not lost a 500m race since February 2024. She will not compete in the second 500m on Sunday.
American Erin Jackson, who scratched both of her races at World Cup No. 3 due to an injured hamstring, skated the race cautiously, crossing the finish line in 43.94 seconds for 19th place.
World record holder and current world No. 1, Miho Takagi, won the women's 1500m by just 0.03 seconds. Joy Beune, who is undefeated in the distance this season, did not compete, electing to prioritize her preparations for the Dutch Olympic Trials in later December.
The United States' Brittany Bowe skated to 5th in the race. She also is ranked 5th in the World Cup standings.
The Hamar World Cup continues Saturday, Dec. 13, with the women's 3000m and men's 5000m, as well as both 1000m competitions.
