Kaila Kuhn (USA) claimed the first World Cup victory of her career in Lake Placid after landing her first clean full-full-full of the season. The American stunned yellow bib holder and reigning Olympic champion Xu Mengtao (CHN) to take the win by just .43 points in the final event of the 2025-26 World Cup campaign.
Xu the only other athlete to land a full-full-full cleanly, but it wasn't enough to overcome Kuhn's 105.60 points. The American was unstoppable throughout the day, as she also led the qualifying round with 105.93 points.
"I can't describe this feeling at all," she said. "World Championships gave me the confidence that it took to go out and do this jump today. It's indescribable. I'm so happy, especially coming into this Olympics. This was a cherry on top of the World Cup season."
Danielle Scott (AUS) earned back-to-back podium finishes in Lake Placid after taking 3rd with a double-full full for 85.65 points. Her compatriot, Laura Peel, was the third athlete to attempt a triple in the superfinal, although she fell hard on her landing and finished in 4th.
Kyra Dossa, the only other American besides Kuhn to advance past the qualifying round, placed 12th in the first final.
With her win today, Kuhn finished her season in 3rd place in the World Cup standings and officially qualified for her second Olympic Games. She's the second woman named to the U.S. Olympic aerials team after Winter Vinecki qualified last week.
Xu solidified her spot at the top of the Cup standings, taking home her seventh Crystal Globe. She finished her season with one World Cup win and four podiums for a commanding 420 points. Kong Fanyu (CHN) finished in second, 127 points behind her compatriot.
China dominated the men's aerials competition, with four Chinese athletes advancing to the superfinal following a stellar showing in the first final. All four attempted five twists, with Li Xinpeng emerging as the victor with 137.19 points for his first career World Cup win. Compatriot Wang Xindi followed in 2nd with his own variation of the five twists, scoring 112 points for back-to-back World Cup podiums in Lake Placid.
Miha Fontaine (CAN) claimed the first World Cup podium finish of his career with a full-full-full.
Although no American men advanced past the qualifying round of Monday's competition, Chris Lillis officially locked up his spot on the U.S. Olympic team at the conclusion of the event. He joins Quinn Dehlinger on the men's roster for Milan Cortina. Dehlinger, who said in an Instagram post that he "got a little banged up in training," did not compete in Lake Placid.
Li’s win means that four of six aerials events were won by Chinese skiers, a feat that showed in the World Cup standings. Sun Jiaxu (CHN) faced compatriots Li Tianma and Qi Guangpu in a tight race for the Crystal Globe but emerged victorious thanks in part to back-to-back podium finishes last week in Lac-Beaufort. Sun finished with 330 points to Li’s 296 for his first career Crystal Globe. Qi ended his season 3rd in the final Cup standings.
Gabriel Dion (CAN) and Feng Junxi (CHN) took home Rookie of the Year awards while China won the Nations Cup for their top performance as a team this season.
