For the second World Cup event of the 2025 season in a row, Kaysha Love landed on the podium — this time on top.
After a 2nd-place finish in Cortina, Love surged to gold in Innsbruck, Austria, routing Germany's Laura Nolte and Lisa Buckwitz for the top spot.
Her fourth World Cup gold in monobob, the win adds to Love's growing arsenal of achievements in her short career. Switching from track and field to bobsled barely five years ago, the 28-year-old Utahn, overtook two Olympic gold medalists with a total time of 1:52.02 seconds.
Veterans Elana Meyers Taylor and Kaille Humphries finished in 8th (1:52.80 seconds) and 9th (1:52.82), respectively, in the monobob event.
All three Americans will face off again in the 2-woman event.
All bobsled events are being held after the cancellation of the men's, women's and mixed team skeleton races due to what was deemed "inadequate track preparation." The men's skeleton and women's skeleton races now will be held in Sigulda, Latvia Dec. 20-21, with a replacement for the mixed team event as yet unannounced.
U.S men take a step closer to a podium finish
In the 2-man event, Americans Frank del Duca and Boone Niederhofer finished just off the podium, tying for 4th place with Koreans Kim Jinsu and Kim Hyeonggeun, with both teams finishing 1.10 seconds behind the 3rd place finisher. At the first World Cup event in Cortina, del Duca and brakeman Joshua Williamson landed just behind the Korean team in 5th place.
All three top spots were swept by Germany, in what the sliding powerhouse will hope is precedent for the Winter Olympics in February.
Four-time Olympic medalist Francesco Friedrich, who is in with a shot to be the most decorated Olympic bobsledder of all time after the Milan Cortina Games, along with brakeman Alexander Schaller, fell behind long-time rival Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer, who took first place with a total time of 1:45.08 seconds.
The IBSF World Cup in Innsbruck continues with the 2-woman and 4-man events.
