Missed opportunities cost the U.S. men's curling team in Friday's round-robin game against Canada.

Danny Casper's team only scored in three ends, and was held to single digits in each of the three in the 6-3 defeat.

The two teams were tied, 1-1, through two, and blanked the third. In the fourth, Casper's final throw drew perfectly to the button. On Canada's counter, Brad Jacobs proved he's one of the best shooters in the world. His throw went around guards and curled inside, taking out the United States' only sitting stone for two, and a 4-2 lead for the Canadians.

The U.S. had a chance at multiple points in the next end, but was unsuccessful on Casper's second-to-last throw. He missed a draw attempt and sailed the rock through the house, taking away what could have been a multiple-point end and instead forcing the Americans to settle for just one.

Canada added one more in the sixth and stole two more in the eighth. Casper's first throw of the eighth was a runback attempt to take two Canadian stones out of the four-foot. It missed, and allowed Jacobs to draw to the button on his final stone. Casper needed a double-takeout on the hammer to salvage points, but his peel attempt didn't curl. The chance to get points in the eighth turned into a Canadian steal and a 6-2 deficit going into the ninth.

Casper's team scored just a single point with hammer in the penultimate end, and conceded the 10th.

Canada shot 95 percent on takeout attempts, and finished with 37 takeouts to 32 for Team USA. Jacobs shot 92 percent on the day. Casper shot just 76 percent.

The U.S. falls to 1-2 in Cortina. They'll take the afternoon session off and return to face Germany on Saturday. The match will begin at 8:05 a.m. ET.

Canada improves to 2-0. The defending Olympic bronze medalists will next play Sweden at 1:05 p.m. ET on Friday.
