The action continues at the Paris Paralympic Games with an exciting event schedule through the weekend. The United States will look to add to its medal tally in several sports, including para track and field and wheelchair rugby. Plus, para triathlon gets underway.
Below is a full breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch on Days 3-5 of the Paris Paralympics.
Para taekwondo
On Aug. 31, the United States’ Evan Medell will take to the mat in search of a gold medal. Medell is looking to upgrade his bronze medal from Tokyo and has stated the Paris Games could be his final competition if he is successful in his gold medal quest. Medell will compete in the new Paralympic 80+kg weight class and will face stiff competition from Great Britain’s Matt Bush, who he lost to in the 2023 World final, and Croatia’s Ivan Mikulic, whom he lost to in semifinal at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Para track and field
A handful of Americans will be looking for medals in para track and field on Aug. 31.
Three-time Paralympic gold medalist Nick Mayhugh will be going for gold in the 100m T38 final, set for 1:25 p.m. ET. He will be joined by American Jaydin Blackwell, the 2023 world champion in the 100m T38 class, who is in pursuit of his first Paralympic medal.
Ezra French will compete in the men's long jump T63 and Noah Malone, who won silver in Tokyo, will look to upgrade his medal in the men's 100m T12 at 3:07 p.m. ET.
Para triathlon
The para triathlon slate at the Paris Paralympics will take place on Sept. 1 with all 11 medal events taking place on the same day. Three-time Paralympic medalist Grace Norman is a top contender, as are two-time Paralympic gold medalist Allysa Seely, and two-time silver medalist Hailey Danz.
Six-time Paralympic medalist Kendall Gretsch, who has the unique distinction of winning gold medals in both the summer and winter Paralympics, is a top medal contender in the PTWC race women's side.
Wheelchair rugby
The wheelchair rugby gold medal game will take place on Sept 2. at 1:30 p.m. ET.
The U.S. has won a medal at every Paralympics since wheelchair rugby first debuted as a demonstration sport in 1996, but is looking to return to the top of the podium for the first time since 2008.
