There's just one thing missing from Rai Benjamin's long list of titles and records: an individual Olympic gold medal.

In Paris, he'll likely be competing against Karsten Warholm, who won the title over Benjamin with a world-record time in Tokyo.

Here's how Benjamin is preparing for another shot at the top prize this summer.

The road to Paris

How did Rai Benjamin do in 2023 Diamond League?

How has Rai Benjamin done this season?

Rai Benjamin has continued to excel on the global stage, earning gold at the 2023 Diamond League and bronze at the 2023 World Championships — an impressive feat to most, but a disappointing one to Benjamin himself.

Benjamin spent much of the season recovering from injury and mourning the loss of his grandmother, who died while he was competing at worlds in Budapest.

"Means nothing," Benjamin said of his world-leading performance at Diamond League. "I didn't do it at worlds, and I didn't do it at the Olympics. It's the Diamond League final. But no one is ever going to remember the Diamond League champion. Everyone is going to remember the Olympic champion.”

Has Rai Benjamin qualified for the Paris Olympics?

Rai Benjamin will compete at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon, June 21 to 30 for a spot on the Olympic roster.

Who is Rai Benjamin’s biggest competitor?

Rai Benjamin has been chasing world record-holder Warholm for at least the last four years. In Tokyo, Warholm became the first man to complete the race in under 46 seconds, stopping the clock at 45.94 and winning gold. Benjamin’s personal-best of 46.17 seconds earned him silver in the event.

Benjamin only has beaten Warholm twice in his career, most recently during 2023 Diamond League action.
