When the time comes for jockeys to mount their horses for this year’s Kentucky Derby, the order will be coming from a GOAT.

Churchill Downs, the racetrack that hosts the Kentucky Derby, announced that Simone Biles will be giving the “Riders Up” command during this year's Run for the Roses. Biles, the most-decorated gymnast of all time, won four medals at the Paris Olympics last summer and has collected seven golds (and 11 total medals) during her three Olympic appearances.

The “Rider’s Up” command is given before each Kentucky Derby and serves as the signal for jockeys to mount their horses in preparation for the race. In recent years, the Derby has invited a celebrity to give the command, with recent announcers including Martha Stewart (2024) and NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes (2023).

It’s the latest honor for Biles, who was named Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year in January.

The 151st Kentucky Derby will air live on NBC and Peacock on Saturday, May 3. TV coverage begins at noon ET on USA Network before switching over to NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET, and everything can be streamed on Peacock, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. Biles’ command will come during the leadup to the main event, which is scheduled for a 6:57 p.m. ET post time.
