Overview

In taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art, athletes use their hands and feet to best their opponent across three rounds of combat

After appearing as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, taekwondo was officially added to the Olympic program for the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia. Unsurprisingly, South Korea has dominated the sport historically, claiming a world-leading 25 total medals (14 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze) across the sport's seven Olympic appearances — 12 more than runner-up China (7 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze).

Where will the taekwondo competition be held at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?

Taekwondo will take place in Hall 1 of the Los Angeles Convention Center, a multi-functional exhibition hall located in downtown Los Angeles. Hall 1 will also feature Olympic fencing, para taekwondo and wheelchair fencing.

Typically, the convention center hosts conferences, trade shows, concerts, and more. The facility is set to undergo a major renovation and expansion in order to properly accommodate the Games.
