The final day of the IBU World Cup season for the year took place on Sunday in Annecy-Le Grand Bornand, France with the women's 12.5km and the men's 15km mass start events.
The last World Cup stop of 2025 showcased incredible finishes and resulted in additional Olympic qualifications for the U.S. biathlon team.
Team USA's Deedra Irwin placed 13th overall in the mass start and officially qualified for the Milan Cortina Winter Games. The 2026 Olympics will be Irwin's second, after she competed in Beijing in 2022.
U.S. teammate Margie Freed also qualified and will compete in her first Olympic Games in 2026.
For the U.S. men, Maxime Germain qualified for his first Olympic Games and will compete alongside Campbell Wright, who qualified earlier this year.
Aside from the exciting qualifications, Sunday's women's 12.5km mass start event was a thrilling and fitting end to IBU competition for the year.
Maren Kirkeeide of Norway raced to the finish in 32:53.2 to secure her first-ever World Cup victory and third podium of the season.
She narrowly beat out two French teammates who were hot on her heels in the final stretch to claim her first gold.
France's Lou Jeanmonnot clinched second and crossed the line just 0.3 seconds behind the Norwegian winner. Jeanmonnot won gold in the women's 10km pursuit yesterday in front of the French crowd.
Her French teammate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet trailed behind by 0.5 seconds to secure the final spot on the podium.
In the men's 15km mass start event, Italy's Tomasso Giacomel took home gold in commanding fashion. He crossed the finish line all alone in 33:35.1 as he waved the Italian flag.
Frenchman Eric Perrot earned the second spot on the podium in front of the French crowd, after he crossed the finish line 18.1 seconds behind Giacomel.
Norway’s Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen clinched third after he finished 3.2 seconds behind Perrot.
Team USA's Wright placed 7th overall in the mass start.
To close out 2025 competition, Jeanmonnot of France remains the overall IBU World Cup leader for the women. On the men's side, Norway's Johan-Olav Botn sits firmly atop the leaderboard by more than 100 points.
The IBU World Cup season continues in Oberhof, Germany on Jan. 8 after a break from competition for the holidays.
