Americans Charlie Mickel and Landon Wendler advanced to the men's moguls final after finishing in the top 10 in the second round of qualification on Thursday in Livigno, Italy.
Mickel placed 3rd, 13th in the overall qualification standings, after laying down a clean run for 77.82 points. Wendler followed in 7th, 17th overall, with a tighter run for 76.34 points.
"I knew I had a good score from the previous quali day," Wendler told NBC. "I tried to up the degree of difficulty in my jumps. I haven't done a cork 10 in a competition in probably two years, so it was good to get one under my belt before we head to finals and go for it."
Mickel made his Olympic debut at these Games in Livigno, Italy, where he claimed his first and only FIS World Cup podium one year ago with a 3rd-place finish. Wendler, with nine career top-10 finishes on the World Cup stage, is also a first-time Olympian.
Cooper Woods (AUS) had a massive run to top the second round of qualification as the only man to break 80 points. The Aussie found himself in the superfinal four years ago in Beijing after only competing in one superfinal to that point in his career. He looks to improve upon his 6th-place finish in Beijing as he heads into Thursday's final.
Japan's Takuya Shimakawa finished close behind Woods to nab his spot in the final. South Korean star Jung Daeyoon also advanced with a 4th-place finish.
