On a day filled with erratic conditions that ultimately resulted in a premature cancellation, Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) raced to victory in the super-G at Birds of Prey with a final time of 1:06.77. It was the 34-year-old’s 19th World Cup win and it came nearly eight years exactly after his first career Cup triumph, also at Beaver Creek.
Fredrik Moeller (NOR) added to his impressive resume in the United States—now three top-fives, four top-tens—with a runner-up finish (+0.56).
Raphael Haaser (AUT) made a bit of personal history, securing third and his first Cup podium (+1.03).
The event stopped just before Lucas Braathen Pinheiro (BRA), who wore the 32 bib, began his run. The week in Beaver Creek has featured a number of day and start time shifts to accommodate shoddy weather, and while more than 30 racers left the gate—enough to make the results official—37 were not able to compete.
“The race was pretty tough,” Kriechmayr stated afterwards. “I think the first 14 racers, they had similar conditions, but after the break and after the crash from Franjo von Allmen (SUI), and I hope he’s well, it wasn’t that fair anymore. I have to tell the truth.”
Still, crucial Cup points were awarded to the field, catapulting the 2021 Crystal Globe winner (in both super-G and downhill) into first place in the super-G discipline on the season ahead of Marco Odermatt (SUI).
By his standards, Odermatt had a rather pedestrian day, scooping up fifth (+1.23). The multi-discipline dynamo is expected to ski in Sunday’s giant slalom.
American River Radamus unleashed one of the strongest runs of the day and for about 40 seconds, was pacing well enough to claim a top-five, perhaps even a podium finish (what would have been the second of his career). Unfortunately, he lost his footing and wound up 12th (+1.62), still good for his best result of the 2025-26 campaign to date.
“It’s been a difficult day, lots of stops and starts,” Radamus said. “It gives you a lot more time to get in your own head. So I was trying to clear that from my mind. I knew that whenever we got to go, I had to be ready.”
“It was dark, it was bumpy, but I felt like I was putting it on the line, and then obviously I made a huge mistake,” he continued. “It's frustrating, and I'll be thinking about that one tonight, but I know I wouldn't have been skiing fast if I wasn't taking risks. So I have to take the good with the bad, and hopefully take some fast skiing into Sunday.”
His teammate Ryan Cochran-Siegle (USA), who placed second in Thursday’s downhill, finished right behind Radamus in 13th. Jared Goldberg (USA) put together his strongest effort of the season, ending his day in 25th. It’s a positive sign for the two-time Olympian as he came in 65th and 59th in his previous races.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR) posted a DNF in his third Cup event back from his near two-year, injury-filled absence.
The action at Birds of Prey concludes on Sunday with giant slalom. The first run streams live on Outside TV at 12:00 p.m. ET, followed by the second on Peacock and CNBC at 3:00 p.m. ET.
