What is the weight of gold?

According to newly crowned Olympic champion Fares Elbakh, the answer is 402kg. That's the total amount of weight the 23-year-old lifted to win the men's 96kg weightlifting final and clinch Qatar's first-ever Olympic gold. En route to the title, he snatched 177kg and set an Olympic record by lifting 225 in the clean and jerk. His total is also an Olympic record.

Keydomar Vallenilla of Venezuela won the silver. He snatched the same amount as Elbakh but was15kg off the Olympic record in the clear and jerk.

Though Georgia's Anton Pliesnoi finished with the same total as Vallenilla, he received bronze because Vallenilla performed the lifts first. His medal is the fifth total for Georgia of the Tokyo Olympics, bringing the nation close to its record of seven.
