In a World Cup season that Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) has owned from the very beginning, the American star clinched her 9th career slalom Crystal Globe title with an electrifying victory at the Spindleruv Mlyn ski resort in Czechia on Sunday, clocking in at 1:37.59.
It was her record 108th Cup win.
24 hours after her first giant slalom podium in over two years, Shiffrin looked indomitable. Shiffrin dominated the course where she made her Cup debut 15 years prior (and failed to qualify for Run 2), posting the fastest times in both heats and proving once again why she is the greatest technical skier ever to take to the slopes.
"It was quite an incredible race. It was a big push...I'm really happy with the day and the way we managed it," Shiffrin said afterwards. "This race for me symbolizes hope and beginnings and new chapters in life. Something about this place that is so special."
The victory is Shiffrin’s seventh out of slalom eight races so far this season (she finished a "measly" second place in Kranjska Gora, Slovakia) and the 71st of her slalom career. On top of locking in her slalom season title, the win also extends her lead in the overall Crystal Globe standings. There are just two slalom races left this season, both of which will come after the Olympic break.
Camille Rast (SUI) placed second (+1.67), logging her fifth podium of the slalom campaign. Rast finished the first run with the fourth fastest time (+1.66 behind Shiffrin), and while she very nearly matched Shiffrin’s second run (+0.01) she was unable to recover from the first run deficit. Rast currently sits second in the overall and slalom Crystal Globe standings and will figure prominently in the technical events in Milan Cortina.
Emma Aicher (GER) rounded out Sunday’s podium in third place (+2:18). The rising German star is turning into a true all-around threat on the women’s Alpine ski tour, having made the podium in both speed disciplines (downhill and super-G) in addition to her three slalom podiums. She is currently third in the overall Crystal Globe standings and name to watch across several events at the 2026 Winter Games.
Keeping spirits high on Team USA, Liv Moritz (USA) had the best finish of her young Cup career in Spindleruv Mlyn (+4.14). Starting in her 11th World Cup race, Moritz was 21st after the first run and briefly held the lead early in the second heat with a total time of 1:41.73. While she was knocked off the podium as the second runs progressed, the 21-year-old still scored her first career Cup points, finishing in 13th place.
After looking on pace for her second podium of the weekend, Paula Moltzan (USA) turned in a surprising DNF. Moltzan tied with Rast for the 4th best time in the first run and started her second run red-hot, but got tied up in the gates in the second sector and had to bail out. She was one of three U.S. skiers to DNF in their second run, along with Nina O’Brien and AJ Hurt. All three will be competing in Milan Cortina next month.
The women’s FIS Alpine World Cup tour will return for a final pair of races before the Olympic break next weekend, with a downhill and super-G in Crans Montana.
