American speed skater Jordan Stolz is poised to make history in Milan Cortina. Known as the fastest man on ice, Stolz won back-to-back world titles in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m in 2023 and 2024 and clinched the last two World Cup season titles in each distance. At the 2026 Winter Games, he could become the second U.S. athlete to win three gold medals in any sport at one Winter Olympics (the first was fellow Wisconsinite Eric Heiden, who won all five speed skating events at the 1980 Lake Placid Games).

Stolz will compete in four events in February: the men's 500m, 1000m, 1500m, and mass start — the last of which he added to his competitive program this season.

How many Olympic medals has Jordan Stolz won?

While Stolz has yet to reach an Olympic podium, he has seen unprecedented success on the World Cup stage.

What records has Jordan Stolz set in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m?

Stolz has set sea-level records in different races eight times, including three at a World Cup event at his home oval in Milwaukee last season: the 500m (33.91 seconds), in which he became the first skater to break 34 seconds; the 1000m (1:06.16), which he won by a greater margin than that separating 2nd and 13th place; and the 1500m (1:41.46).
