On Sunday morning, Breezy Johnson became the first American to win a medal at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. And she made it count, winning gold in the Alpine skiing women's downhill event by just 0.04 seconds.

The 30-year-old from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is competing at her second Olympics. She participated in two events in 2018 but missed the 2022 Beijing Games with an injury suffered in Cortina, the same place where she won gold.

When will Breezy Johnson compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

After Sunday's downhill win, Johnson could have up two events left on her docket in Cortina.

At her first Olympics in 2018, Johnson competed in the downhill and super-G. This time, she is also expected to compete in the team combined event.

The event features a new format in which two athletes will compete, one racing downhill and the other racing slalom. Johnson would be expected to compete in the downhill portion, which is run first.

  • Women's super-G: Thursday, Feb. 12

How many Olympic medals does Breezy Johnson have?

Johnson's victory in the women's downhill in Cortina is her first Olympic medal. She has won two world championship gold medals in downhill and team combined in 2025. In the team combined, she was partners with fellow Olympian Mikaela Shiffrin. This was the first time the team combined was contested at a world championships.
