American Jaelin Kauf looks for redemption at Livigno Aerials & Moguls Park after a stumble on the landing of her top air left her outside the top 10 qualifiers advancing to Wednesday's final.
Despite being the fastest skier on the course at 24.88 seconds, Kauf's mistakes landed her in 24th. She will get a second chance to qualify on Wednesday morning ahead of the final later that afternoon.
"I wasn't in the run that I was after, but that's the beauty of this format," Kauf said. "We get two qualification runs, so I get another go at it tomorrow."
Kauf has won six World Cup moguls competitions over the course of her career in addition to claiming a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Achieving beginning the season with a 3rd-place finish in Ruka, Finland, she's keen to build on her success from Beijing.
"[I'm] going for gold out here," Kauf said. "Gonna have to ski another qualification run, unfortunately, to start the day tomorrow, but it'll give me another chance to get on there."
Austria's Avital Carroll will also look to nab a spot in the final after missing out on the top 10 by just 1.47 points. The Austrian has steadily improved throughout the season, placing higher than her last result in each competition. She comes into these Games off of a 4th-place finish in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire — her best career-result in moguls on the World Cup circuit.
Anastassiya Gorodko and Yuliya Galysheva anchor Kazakhstan's freestyle skiers at these Games. Gorodko, with two World Cup podiums in dual moguls, and Galysheva, with three World Cup wins in moguls, placed 12th and 14th, respectively.
Other hopefuls to make the final include Ashley Koehler (CAN), Emma Bosco (AUS), Rino Yanagimoto (JPN), and Jessica Linton (CAN).
