We might have a winner for the most exclusive — and badass — group chat ever.
The AP's Dave Skretta took readers behind the scenes on the epic group chat called the "OGM chain," which stands for "only gold medalists." It's made up of every U.S. figure skater who has ever won a gold medal in the Winter Olympics.
The list of members stretches back to Tenley Albright, the now-90-year-old who won gold in 1956.
Nathan Chen gained entry into the exclusive club when he won a pair of gold medals at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. He received a text right after claiming gold that read, "congratulations. Welcome to our chat," the AP detailed.
Brian Boitano won gold in the 1988 Calgary Olympics and gave the AP a behind-the-scenes look at the group chat.
"It's really fun," Boitano said. "You go into the chat and you're like, 'wow.' You just think to yourself, 'I'm actually in this community.'"
The current U.S. figure skating team added five new members to the chat this year. Ilia Malinin, Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu, Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea helped lead the USA squad to gold in the team event for the second straight Winter Olympics.
So what goes on in this ultra exclusive group chat?
"It means a lot personally, because we are able to talk about the sport and about skaters and about the U.S. team," Carol Heiss, who won gold in the 1960 Winter Olympics, told the AP. "If we feel strongly about something, we kind of voice our opinions.
"... We all know how it feels. We all have that memory of standing on an Olympic podium."
