The 2026 Games mark the first time women's doubles teams will compete in the relay after the discipline made its Olympic debut on Wednesday.

Each team will get just one run per sled, and relay order will be as follows: Women’s singles, men’s doubles, men’s singles and women’s doubles. The relay is continuous, with the next sled starting as soon as the previous sled crosses the finish line and the slider strikes a touch-sensitive pad with their hand.

The running order by competing nation will be Romania, China, Poland, Ukraine, United States, Latvia, Austria, Italy and Germany.

The United States will be represented in women's singles by bronze medalist Ashley Farquharson, in men's doubles by Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa, in men's singles by Jonny Gustafson and in women's doubles by Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby. The U.S. fielded this exact relay team at the 2025 Luge World Cup in Altenberg, Germany, and they took 3rd place in the event.

The Olympic event was introduced at Sochi 2014 and has been won by Germany in all three Games thus far.

The Germans, who will start last, are certain to be the gold medal favorite again. Singles gold medalists Julia Taubitz and Max Langenhan will compete, as will women’s doubles silver medalists Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina and men’s doubles bronze medalists Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt.

Italy and Austria are also expected to be contenders after each team took multiple luge medals at Milan Cortina 2026.
