A look at all four games played in the men's curling competition on Saturday in Cortina.
United States 8, Germany 6
The U.S. scored four in the first end, and while Germany tried to claw their way back the Americans held on to that early lead for their second win of the Milan Cortina Games.
After the big opener, Danny Casper's U.S. squad added two points in the fifth, and led 6-3 at the halfway break.
Marc Muskatewitz turned what could have been a game-ender for Team USA into a game-changer for the Germans in the sixth end. The U.S. was sitting four going into the final throws, but that meant nothing to the German skip. He fired a rocket down the ice and took out all of the American's rocks. Casper was unable to salvage anything with the hammer, sending the rock out of the house and allowing Germany to steal one and get within two, 6-4.
The Germans stole two total points in the match, but were held to just single points in each end until the eighth when they put up two to get within one, 7-6.
The U.S. didn't falter. Muskatewitz drew to the back of the four-foot to give Germany sitting two ahead of the American's hammer in the ninth. Casper answered, getting the double to erase both German rocks and give his team one and its final two-point lead ahead of the tenth.
Germany had hammer in the 10th needing two to force extras and three for the win. The Americans did a good job of not allowing Germany to accumulate rocks in the house, and on the American's final throw Casper took out his opponent's only sitting stone, forcing Muskatewitz's squad to concede the final rock and the win.
The U.S. outshot Germany 91-83 percent on draws and 92-89 percent on takeouts.
Saturday is the second win for Team USA (2-1) in Cortina. They'll be back on the ice to take on defending gold medalists Sweden on Sunday at 3:05 a.m. ET. Germany (1-2) will take on Great Britain at the same time.
