Canada's wheelchair curling mixed team conquered China, 4-3, in a thrilling finish to the Paralympic gold medal game at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

With one stone remaining in the eighth and final end, it wasn't completely clear which team had shot rock. It appeared Canada's stone perhaps was slightly closer to the button, so they could have decided to toss away the hammer and leave the match up to a measurement.

True to form, always with a flair for the dramatic, Canada elected to throw for gold, even at the risk of knocking themselves out of a winning position.

Skip Mark Ideson, with ice in his veins and the clock running out, delivered the stone of his life, slightly bumping his own team's rock closer to the button and bringing Canada its first wheelchair curling Paralympic gold medal since 2010.

In the process, the nation also became the first wheelchair curling squad ever to go undefeated (11-0) in Paralympic tournament play.

For China, they couldn't quite capture a wheelchair curling Paralympic three-peat, but they'll leave Cortina with silver and go down as one of the greatest teams to take the ice.

Canada (2006, 2010, 2014, 2026) and China (2018, 2022) remain the only two countries to have won Paralympic gold in wheelchair curling.
