Overview
Squash is one of two sports set to make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles (along with flag football) and one of five disciplines added to the Olympic program since 2024.
An early form of the sport now called squash can be traced back to early 18th century London prisons, where inmates used rackets to bounce balls of wound cotton off a wall or corner. Later, following the advent of vulcanized rubber in the mid-1800s, students at an English boys' boarding school began playing a similar game with a larger, hollowed-out ball more similar to the one used today. They soon renamed the sport from "baby racquets" to "squash."
What are the Olympic squash events for 2028?
The inaugural Olympic squash tournament will feature two events, marked by fields of 16 players each. The first player to 11 points, with at least a two-point lead, wins each game, and the first player to three games wins the match.

Where will the squash competition be held at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?
Squash will be held at the Comcast Squash Center, located inside Universal Studios. It is the only sport set to be contested at the center.
The squash courts, temporarily installed for the 2028 Games, will be located in the backlot set known as Courthouse Square, which has been featured in several iconic films such as "Back to the Future," "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Gremlins," and "Bruce Almighty."
The lot has been severely damaged by fires multiple times, most recently in 2008.
