Olympic beach volleyball is set for a triumphant homecoming at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where the Olympic event will be contested in the place where it began. The modern game of beach volleyball—which features two teams of two facing off on a sandy court—originated on the beaches of Santa Monica. The sport made its Olympic debut at the 1996 Atlanta Games, and has been growing in popularity ever since.
Beach volleyball is played by two teams of two players. The first team to win two sets win the match. The first two sets are played to 21 points and the third set is played to 15 points, if necessary.
What are the Olympic beach volleyball events for 2028?
Beach volleyball at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will have two tournaments, each featuring 24 teams. Each tournament will begin with round-robin play spread out across six pools. 16 teams will advance past the group stage and into sudden death knockout rounds through the gold medal final.
Competition begins with round robin play before the top teams in each group advance to the round of 16.

Where will the beach volleyball competition be held at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?
Both beach volleyball tournaments will be held at the Alamitos Beach Stadium, a temporary venue positioned on the Western part of the Long Beach Coastline. It is one of several sports that will be making a home in Long Beach, including canoe, handball, rowing, and swimming among others.
Alamitos Beach Stadium will also host the blind football (soccer) competition during the Paralympics.
