Overview
One of just five sports contested at every Summer Games since the inaugural edition in 1896, swimming will once again headline the Olympic program in 2028.
On the Olympic level, swimmers race alongside each other in a 50-meter pool, competing in distances ranging from 50m to 1500m.
Three new events will be contested for the first time: the 50m backstroke, the 50m breaststroke, and the 50m butterfly. Until 2028, the 50m freestyle, which debuted at the 1988 Seoul Games, has been the only 50-meter event on the Olympic program.

There are 21 events on the swimming program for the 2028 LA Olympics, including three new distances for both men and women.

Where will the swimming competition be held at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?
SoFi Stadium will be transformed into a swimming venue for the 2028 Olympics.
The arena, which serves as the home for the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, hosted the Super Bowl in 2022 and will host several World Cup matches in 2026, as well as another Super Bowl in 2027.
During the Olympics, SoFi will also co-host the Olympic Opening Ceremony with the LA Memorial Coliseum and host the Paralympic Opening Ceremony.
