Overview

Basketball, one of the most popular sports in the United States, promises to be a hot ticket at the Los Angeles Olympics. Although international play features some slight rule differences, the 5-on-5 Olympic basketball tournament, which has been part of the Games since 1936, will be very familiar to viewers of the NBA, WNBA, or NCAA college basketball.

The Olympic tournaments attract high-profile athletes from the NBA and WNBA, but it's no longer just Team USA stacked with elite talent — NBA stars like Victor Wembanyama (France), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), Luka Doncic (Slovenia) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) have been key components of international squads at recent Olympics.

The U.S., however, will still be the country to beat, having won five straight men's titles and eight straight women's titles.
