Overview
In triathlon, athletes compete in a three-part race that consists of a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycling section and a 10km run. With no break in between sections, athletes are pushed into the ultimate test of endurance and versatility. Modern triathlon was founded in Southern California in 1974, and made its Olympic debut during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Unlike other sports, there are no heats in triathlon. Each competition will have just one final race.

Triathlon at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will be contested at Venice Beach, with the iconic beachfront neighborhood providing the perfect setting for all three triathlon sections. Also serving as the start of the marathon in track and field, the famous boulevard will serve as both a transition zone during the triathlon races as well as the ultimate finish line.
