Chloe Kim will miss the Laax Open due to a shoulder injury, but says she will be "good to go" for the Milan Cortina Olympics in February.

After announcing that she'd dislocated her shoulder in a training crash, Kim updated her injury status in a social media post. The 25-year-old said an MRI revealed a torn labrum, but, according to Kim, the severity of the tear was on the lower end, which will allow her to return to snowboarding “right before the Olympics.”

“I haven’t gotten nearly the amount of reps that I would have liked, but that’s OK,” said Kim, who will be wearing a shoulder brace during her recovery.

In her video, the U.S. snowboard star confirmed she would miss the Laax Open, a major contest she was in Switzerland training for when the injury occurred. The timeline indicates she’s also expected to miss X Games the following weekend.

“I’ve been doing this for so long, and every season, I am met with a different set of challenges, so I guess this is going to be the one this year,” Kim said. “But I’m so grateful that I will be good to go for the Olympics.”

Kim is already prequalified for the U.S. Olympic team based on her results from the 2024-25 season. She’s once again considered a heavy favorite in women’s snowboard halfpipe, and at the Milan Cortina Games, she'll be one of several women — along with Anna Gasser (AUT) and Ester Ledecka (CZE) — vying to become the first snowboarder to win gold at three consecutive Olympics.

The Opening Ceremony for the Milan Cortina Games is on Friday, Feb. 6. Women’s snowboard halfpipe gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 11 with the first round of competition.

Kim's only competition so far this season was the U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, where she was the top qualifier but pulled out of the final after crashing during practice.
