The sled hockey tournament kicks off with group stage games, including the United States taking on host-nation Italy. The U.S. enters the Milan Cortina Games seeking its fifth-straight gold medal, with 13 Paralympic veterans on the squad.

In mixed doubles, the U.S. team currently sits tied with five other teams for second in the standings with a 2-2 record. Steve Emt and Laura Dwyer have three games left to secure the U.S. a top-four spot. 

The mixed team competition will kick off on Saturday with the U.S. team playing two games. Matthew Thums leads the U.S., with Oyung Uranchimeg, Sean O'Neill, Dan Rose and Katie Verderber making up the rest of the team.

Oksana Masters, a seven-time Paralympian, is seeking her 15th Winter Paralympic medal (20th across both Winter and Summer) in the women's sitting classification race. Masters will be joined by Kendall Gretsch and Nicole Zaino from the U.S. 

On the men's side, Aaron Pike will lead the charge for the United States. Pike is a eight-time Paralympian, but still in the hunt for his first Paralympic medal. Americans Josh Sweeney and Michael Kneeland will join Pike in the sitting classification.

The U.S. has a trio of contenders in snowboard cross. Brenna Huckaby is one of the most decorated American snowboarders, with four Paralympic medals across two Games. Noah Elliott, a two-time Paralympian, missed the podium in both events in 2022 while dealing with an injury. Elliott will look for redemption in Italy. Mike Schultz, one of the most accomplished riders in para snowboard cross, rounds out the American stars.
