The Milan Cortina Winter Paralympics finally have arrived.

Fifty years after the first Paralympics were held in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, the 2026 Games promise 11 action-packed days of competition featuring more athletes than ever before.

The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee officially announced the 72-member roster headed to Italy, a highly-decorated and experienced group which includes 68 athletes (48 men, 20 women) and four guides for visually impaired athletes. In 2022, the country sent 67 total competitors.

“We are incredibly proud to introduce 72 remarkable athletes who will represent the United States in Italy at the Paralympic Winter Games,” USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland said in a statement released on March 2. “Their journeys are defined by excellence, perseverance, discipline, and an unshakable belief in what is possible. We cannot wait to support them as they seize this moment and cheer them on as they shine on this global stage.”

The squad comprises 44 returning Paralympians, led by para Nordic skiers Oksana Masters and Aaron Pike, who both will make their eighth Paralympic appearances in Italy. Twenty-five of those 44 athletes already have climbed a Paralympic podium at least once, while four — Masters, fellow para Nordic skiers Kendall Gretsch and Dan Cnossen, and para Alpine skier Laurie Stephens — boast seven or more Paralympic medals.

Paralympic competition kicks off with wheelchair curling March 4. The Opening Ceremony, marking the official beginning of the 2026 Games, will take place March 6.
